Library Science Reflection
In my first month of being a
library science student I learned the interworking’s of a library. I have
really enjoyed my first month as a library science student, I like being around
books and having the opportunity of read and work on class work. I’ve gotten
the chance to learn how books are organized in a library through the dewy
decimal system assignment and the shelving assignment. I think in order to be a
good library assistant you need to take initiative; help when you see
opportunities. As well it is important
to check our shelving sections daily.
My strengths include are
knowing the material of the library; I read regularly so I know quite a few
books in the library and I think I’m becoming more comfortable with where books
are located. As well I am organized so
I’m usually on top of my assignments and keeping my shelves organized.
My weaknesses are I
struggled to acclimatize to new concepts, such as the Dewey decimal system, but
now I think I am getting the hang out it.
Another weakness I have is that I can be distracted easily, since we get
free time and it is self-directed it is easy to get distracted. I feel that I am improving, and making good
use of my time.
As I said previously I
really enjoy the library atmosphere and having so many books at arm’s reach. I really enjoy are newest assignment since it
gives me as reason to read a book I bought a while ago, that is also in the
library. Some things that I found
difficult were using the blog; I’m not super great with technology and I prefer
to do things on paper so getting used to the blog was somewhat difficult.
One thing that could make
library learning commons is if we do an inventory of books since often I can’t
find books. I see them appear on the
computer as being here but they aren’t any where I could find in the
library. Another suggestion is to take
suggestions for what new books should be bought for the library from the
library science students. A third
suggestion would to bring back those nice reading chairs we used to have in the
library rather than the bean bags.
